Atheist – Unquestionable Presence
Unfortunately they didn't have all the songs uploaded, and I'm at work so I can't upload my own copy. Had to sub in some live versions, which aren't bad anyway. Enjoy
Random Happenings
Well, it's pretty obvious I've been seriously slacking off in keeping up with the blog. To my loyal readers, all none of you, I apologize! So what's been going on with me, anyway? Well, let me tell you!
I finally got a chance to take all my new gear out and hit the slopes last weekend. It wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. I only really needed 2 runs down the beginner slope to get back to where I was however many years ago. Then it was off to the big boy slopes! I paid for it the next couple days though, my entire body was hurting. My knees are still a little bruised from a couple spills on icy patches. Ouch!
On a completely different note, it seems as though my little blog is reaching out and touching some people in the music industry, even though I haven't posted a Music Monday since Grooveshark was blocked at work. The guys from Beissert found the MM post in which I posted their album "...nothing left to luv!", and made their own blog post in appreciation! It's refreshing to see a band appreciate fans spreading their music, instead of demanding it be taken down. Very cool guys.
And in the "I don't give a shit about this, Mike." file, I finally got off my ass and got everything I needed to get my fireplace up and going! Nice and toasty!
Napalm Death – Time Waits For No Slave
Be sure to check out the title track.
Music Monday – Beissert “Nothin left to luv!”
You will listen to these songs, and like them!
Faces of Opeth
Opeth, a Swedish progressive death metal band, is another of my long time favorite bands. All 9 of their albums are fantastic, and seem to show a new side of the band in each one. The songs in this post are from different albums, and will show the different styles of the band.
In Mist She Was Standing is from the album "Orchid". Orchid, along with Morningrise, are more raw than any of their later albums. The songs also tend to be very long, with the longest being 26 minutes.
Godheads Lament is off of the concept album "Still Life". After their first two releases, the band moved to a more progressive sound, bringing in far more clean vocals and acoustic playing than their previous albums. I consider Still Life and My Arms, Your Hearse to be Opeth's two best albums.
The album Damnation is purely a progressive rock album, and shocked many fans when it was released. It's a very good album, but nobody expected Opeth to release a non-metal album.
Blackwater Park is the feature track on the albums of the same name. Many consider either Deliverance or Blackwater Park to be the bands heaviest releases at the time. They're both excellent albums, just not on the level of Still Life and MA,YH in my opinion.
Lotus Eater is off of the bands latest release, Watershed. Both Watershed and Ghost Reveries get relatively little play time compared to the other albums. They're good releases, just not nearly as good as the earlier stuff.
A taste of Evergrey
Evergrey are one of my long time favorites. Hailing from Sweden, they're a progressive/power metal group. So if you cringe at the growls of death metal, give this a listen, it may be more your speed.
Still in the Water is off of the Monday Morning Apocalypse album. Not one of their best albums in my opinion, but it's defiantly a good song.
The Great Deceiver is the song that originally got me into Evergrey in the first place. Recreation Day is one of their better albums.
Solitude Within is my favorite off of what I believe to be their best album, Solitude*Dominance*Tragedy.
Songs that are Awesome, pt2
Another asskicking for your ears.
This is currently one of my favorite songs, even though it kind of trails off after the first 2 minutes. Gojira is one of those bands that defiantly has their own distinct sound, and it's a good one.
Insomnium has always been a favorite of mine. I don't think they've ever made a bad song, and this is one of their best in my opinion.
My Dying Bride are the godfathers of Death/Doom Metal. This is one of their rare, fast(er) songs, although it does start out slow.
