Faces of Opeth

Opeth, a Swedish progressive death metal band, is another of my long time favorite bands. All 9 of their albums are fantastic, and seem to show a new side of the band in each one. The songs in this post are from different albums, and will show the different styles of the band.

In Mist She Was Standing is from the album "Orchid". Orchid, along with Morningrise, are more raw than any of their later albums. The songs also tend to be very long, with the longest being 26 minutes.

Godheads Lament is off of the concept album "Still Life". After their first two releases, the band moved to a more progressive sound, bringing in far more clean vocals and acoustic playing than their previous albums. I consider Still Life and My Arms, Your Hearse to be Opeth's two best albums.

The album Damnation is purely a progressive rock album, and shocked many fans when it was released. It's a very good album, but nobody expected Opeth to release a non-metal album.

Blackwater Park is the feature track on the albums of the same name. Many consider either Deliverance or Blackwater Park to be the bands heaviest releases at the time. They're both excellent albums, just not on the level of Still Life and MA,YH in my opinion.

Lotus Eater is off of the bands latest release, Watershed. Both Watershed and Ghost Reveries get relatively little play time compared to the other albums. They're good releases, just not nearly as good as the earlier stuff.
